Welcome to Walnut Grove Elementary School! I am excited to be your principal. During my career, I have been fortunate to work in a variety of educational settings; I have served as an elementary teacher, a middle school teacher, a high school assistant principal, an instructional coach, a college professor, a college administrator, and as an alternative school director. I hold a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, a Specialist’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership, and a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education. My diverse experience has given me a unique perspective and a chance to better understand the needs of students over their entire educational careers. The elementary school years are by far the most important years in a child’s education, as students learn the foundational skills necessary to become successful, productive citizens. Our goal at WGES is to help students leave our school prepared for success in middle school and in life.
My name is Haley Herrick, and it truly is my pleasure to serve the staff, students, and stakeholders of Walnut Grove Elementary. As a veteran in education, I know how important a friendly face, helpful attitude, and dedicated work ethic are to our students and families. Those characteristics will continue to be who I am to the core.
As a long-time resident of Walton County, I believe in what we do as a community and school system. My husband David and I are raising our only child, Jackson, in this community and in this school system. We value our community and school system and are dedicated to seeing Walton County thrive.
My heart and soul belong to teaching and learning and a big piece of my heart belongs to WGES! I have been part of this staff for a long time, teaching first grade, second grade, EIP Reading and Math in second, third, fourth, and fifth grades, and Gifted in fourth and fifth grades. I served as the Teacher Leader/Instructional Coach for seven years, and I was the WGES Teacher of the Year for 2013-14. I am fundamentally an educator and began teaching at the ripe old age of two...yes two! I imagined being a teacher at such a young age and made that dream a reality.
My interactions with numerous educators have helped mold me into the leader that I am today. Great schools result from great teachers, and I look forward to collaborating with the great teachers and staff of Walnut Grove Elementary to ensure that all students continue to grow emotionally, socially, and academically. Walnut Grove Elementary is truly a special place to be and I am so thankful to be here!
Yours in Education,
Haley M. Herrick
